Security has a way of picking up on the amiss that "normal" people wouldn't notice. So on and so forth...

NEIGHBORHOOD: Grey Pebble - Vik lives in a rather ostentatious manor with a reputation for the occasional large and rowdy party. She also houses a number of Gifted who work for her. In some particular, down-low circles, her mansion is considered to be an unofficial safe house of sorts for Gifted.

Vik can plant opinions in a person's mind via vocal command. It's a particular brand of mind control — she can't command someone to perform a specific action, but she can make them accept whatever she says as truth. For example, Vik couldn't say "punch yourself in the face" or "break up with your girlfriend", but she could — with only a simple whisper — make a person believe they're the most despicable person on the planet or make them think that they don't actually love their girlfriend.

Her influence isn't eternal — eventually, it does wear off. Hours, days, or sometimes even weeks down the line... a person might wonder why they thought a certain way at all. Some individuals are more difficult to sway than others, and some beliefs/opinions themselves are harder to change than others, but she's only come across a couple of people in her entire life that have been capable of resisting her persuasion entirely.

OVERALL APPEARANCE: Vik is a striking individual, who is not above using her looks to her advantage. She's an attractive, slender woman with just enough curve in all the right places. And while slender, she's by no means a noodly beanpole. She's toned and capable, which isn't always obvious at first glance, until one is lucky enough to get her hands on her and feel the subtle, yet unmistakable, hardness of her body. She's always been tall for a woman — and was teased for being an absolute giraffe as a child — but she loves her long legs and will always dress to intentionally show them off. Never will she shy from heels in an attempt to look smaller; she's a tall bitch and isn't afraid to tower.

Thick hair cascades down her midback, black in color with a faint, manageable curl. She's very proud of her hair and invests a lot of time into keeping it silky, healthy, and well-kept. Sometimes she'll pull it up into a fancy, neat up-do, with strands pulled out to curl about her face and accentuate her dark eyes, but more often than not she wears it down. She has a long, slender face with high, defined cheekbones and a distinctive, hooked nose. She is known to be a woman of many faces. While some know her eyes to be cold and piercing among calculating, hard features, others have only seen warmth, batting eyelashes, and a flirty pout. She's very decidedly expressive when she wants to be, and always proper to the situation, who she's speaking to, and what she wants from them.

Vik is always dressed to the nines, even in the comfort of her own home; preferring to absolutely bleed style and expense. Always classy, never skimpy, but worn in a way that shows what she has anyway. She's confident in her skin and her clothes and knows how to exude this confidence in a way that's somehow both subtle and smothering.

STRENGTHS:
Self-Assured - Vik has a spine. It isn't an easy task to beat her back or break her down. Good luck to anyone attempting to deter her from her goals. She's confident in her abilities and if she didn't think she could do something well, she wouldn't do it at all. It's hard to knock her off her feet, as she plants them firmly and stands strong in her beliefs, opinions, and goals. She's always been her own number-one fan — her own biggest cheerleader and supporter — so she has never needed to rely on someone else's opinion or approval.

Loyal/Good To Her Own - Vik is capable of terrible things — she's manipulative, temperamental, vindictive, and jealous. But never toward her friends or confidants. Being with her rather than against her is undeniably preferable and those in her circle are privy to a much different person than she portrays to strangers and enemies alike. Some might be surprised, but Vik can actually be pretty selfless and compassionate to her own — her friends, her employees, and her trusted people. She's given down-on-luck employees a place to live. She's extended her protection to those who've sought it. She's been there for people who needed her and is capable of trusting people enough to let them be there for her as well. She isn't exactly "sunshine-and-rainbows" to her friends, nor is she the nicest person in the world behind closed doors, but she's honest and dependable. Because of this, she values loyalty and will never, ever forgive a betrayal — because she was good to her own.

Passionate - Vik doesn't do anything half-assed and pours whatever she has into whatever she does. She'll only take things on that she feels strongly for and believes in, so she can stand behind them and support them with her whole self.

Resourceful - It's hard to back Vik into a corner. She knows how to utilize whatever she has — her Gift, her money, her relationships, her influence, etc. — to come up with quick, clever ways to get out of anything. She's smart and weaselly, so it's hard to get her to sweat in a pressuring situation. She'll barter with her time, favors, and whatever else is available to her, and always in a way that ultimately puts her in the winning.

Dramatic - Vik is an apt entertainer and knows how to put on a good show. She's flamboyant and extra, in almost everything (her wardrobe and her antics primarily); always ready to hype anything up to be excitable and enticing. She can wear whatever face she knows will rub the people she's trying to appeal to the right way. Make herself engaging and interesting.


WEAKNESSES:
Vindictive - Never forgive, never forget. Vik is a firm believer in "eye for an eye". She won't let any insult or disservice go unanswered. Do her wrong and expect her to repay the favor (at least two-fold if she has her way). She can be driven by vengeance in such a way that she'll leave no bridge unburned, usually gaining more enemies in the process. She possesses a terrible habit of escalating forgivable (or unintended) slights into a full-blown war of animosity. She doesn't take insults well, and she can find insult in the littlest of things.

Temperamental - She's quick to anger and absolutely malicious when angered. You'll see no mercy once you've invoked her rage; she'll pick you apart with no hesitation, prey on your insecurities, and always, always cross the line.

Foolhardy - While Vik loves napping and lazing about as much as the next gal, she's also always seeking her next thrill or adventure. She's an adrenaline junkie and will do anything for a rush, even if it's dangerous or rash.

Manipulative - Vik will do whatever is needed to reach her goals and she'll use whatever advantage she has over someone to get what she wants. While she is rarely ever two-faced to her friends or confidants, she has no qualms about cheating, scheming, and lying her way through interactions with other people to reach a certain goal.

Territorial - Vik's stuff is hers. Her empire, her material possessions, her lovers... encroach upon her things, or try to take them as your own, and expect retaliation.


OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Vik is a bad bitch with many faces. Some may only know the temperamental, no-nonsense, will-cut-you whirlwind that she is, and others may be trusted enough to see the kinder, compassionate side of her. No matter which you're familiar with, it's plainly obvious to all that she is someone used to getting her way and will do just about anything to ensure she does.

HISTORY:
Saavik Areli was born as Saavik Vargas to an affluent family in Spain. Her mother died of illness while she and her siblings were still quite young and the children were left to be primarily raised by nannies and house staff, as their father was a heavily-involved figure, who threw himself even harder into work and traveling after his wife's death. But the children grew up wanting for nothing. They had the best tutors, the best caretakers, and access to enough wealth to throw them into whatever extra-curricular activities they desired. The children were really close and always competitive with each other.

When Vik first grew into her Gift, she struggled immensely with it. In the beginning, she had little control over the intent behind her words, especially when her emotions ran high. Her mother had possessed the same ability of persuasion, but the woman was an enigma to her; she knew nothing about her maternal side of the family and the estate staff knew little more than their former lady was foreign. A kind-enough woman but secretive and subdued. With some hired, investigative help, Vik eventually discovered her mother's family originated in America. A humble family, the Arelis were not affluent or renowned, and were hard to track due to their complete lack of connection and relevancy. Shortly after discovering her mother's family, a childish argument between her and her siblings escalated to screams and nasty words — the end result being the grisly and unintended death of their youngest sister.

Shortly after that, Vik decided to leave for the States and, upon landing on foreign shores, she adopted her mother's surname and sought out the Areli family. She found her mother's sister in Los Eurosia, running a small-time club called 'The Silver Dagger'. Her aunt, Katia, was also Gifted and taught Vik how to control her persuasion, as well as employed her at the club as a singer/dancer. The pair got along swimmingly, and in Katia, Vik found a sort of mother-figure. They became business partners and Vik used her wealth to build the establishment into what it is today — a giant entertainment venue rather than a simple club.

Katia was already known in certain, down-low circles to be a friend to all Gifted individuals and, as their club grew larger, Vik became adept at employing them to put their abilities to work at the venue. Eventually, Katia passed and Vik became the sole proprietor of the Silver Dagger, which she continued to run with skilled aplomb. With the emergence of Blackstorm, she was eager to extend whatever help she could to them, desiring nothing more than a world where Gifted can live openly and safely.

Twenty-nine years might seem long enough to come to terms with one's homosexual interests, but Ashley's not quite there yet. While he does have scattered attractions to men and has come far enough to recognize that for what it is, he's still only ever identified openly as heterosexual. He's only ever been with women and a same-sex relationship isn't something he'd approach with certainty. He's aware of these attractions but it's not something he's explored, made known, or would readily admit to.

POWERS: Animal Empathy/Scrying
Animal Empathy - Ashley can sense the emotional state of animals and communicate with them on a very basic level. It isn't exactly telepathy; he can not control the animals, manipulate how they're feeling, or even talk to them. But he can project his own feelings and make them aware of his intent and actions, usually communicating to them that he's not intending harm and the like. If he were to focus and expand his senses, he could detect the presence of the animals around him. Somewhat inexplicably, this doesn't seem to work on humans (and by extension, shapeshifters).

Animal Scrying - Ashley can also "hitch-hike" an animal's senses to see/experience what is happening around them. He can taste, smell, see, and hear as the animal does. He can feel whatever happens to their physical body and, in some smaller way (perhaps due to his empathy ability), can also feel their emotions and instinctual drive. He can not control the animal in any way and scrying leaves his human body somewhat exposed. Through the years, however, he has learned to sort of "half" his focus in order to maintain some hazy awareness of what is happening to and around his own body while he's scrying.

OVERALL APPEARANCE: Standing a couple of inches over six foot, Ashley is a man fairly imposing in his physical stature; a spitting image of his father when his father was younger, though far less rigid and cold in disposition. His weight fluctuates around 185lbs and his frame is built with muscle that he keeps well-conditioned through routine exercise. While he is broad-shouldered and slightly burly, somehow his physical strength isn't usually obvious unless he's stripped down or flexing. His capacity to quite easily shove your face in the dirt and pin you down is downplayed even further by the unimposing and deliberately mild manner in which Ashley holds himself. While his build alone can be intimidating by default, he has a soft way about him that often dispels any discomfort his appearance may initially elicit. However, he does have the capacity to flip a switch and become formidable and threatening if push comes to shove.

Naturally, Ashley's hair is a dirty dishwater blonde, but he keeps it dyed a darker brown. He tends to keep it cut short as his hair — much like Dane's — can become quite feathery and unmanageable when left to grow out. He typically keeps it neat and tidy with a bit of styling product but is also known to have his lazy days where he'll just throw on a hat and leave it a hidden mess (especially when his roots are growing out).

LIKES:
• The ocean, marine life, even lakes and simply swimming. He romanticizes water a lot.

• Quiet, cozy, and pretty things like flowers/flowershops and books/used bookshops.







DISLIKES:
• Violence; raised voices, heated arguments, goading, etc. Ashley is trying super hard to be as far removed as possible from who he was as Dino Wayland. He is more than capable of fighting and brawling but he's deliberately and statedly averse to it. If you push him into that corner where he has to revert back to that person, he will... but he's going to really hate you for it. He has no good associations with violence and it being forced upon him is bound to open a box of bad memories that will leave him reeling, trying to reign himself in before he loses himself to that blackness and actually hurts someone. He doesn't want to be that person and being reminded that he was is a surefire way to twist him up inside.

• Strong, black coffee. He's got to dump at least eight spoonfuls of sugar in it and add a significant amount of creamer before he'll drink it.

• Though he's a tolerant individual, Ash doesn't take well to vulgarity or excessively rude, disruptive, or mean-spirited behavior.





STRENGTHS:
• An accomplished mediator; soothing and calming when he needs to be. Is accustomed to being a voice of reason to those who need it. Always seems to know how to talk someone off a ledge or mollify an escalating situation.

• He's a soft, romantic boy at heart. Possesses warm and tender capabilities. Sensitive to the needs of friends and strangers. Emotionally readable and initially disarming; expressive tone and body language that radiates a sort of benevolence.

• Doesn't shrink away when someone gets nasty. Won't turn away at the first glimpse of ugliness. Accepts people for not just the pretty parts of them; can weather the more unsightly bits of them with the same, unflinching steadiness. He won't be scared away by a bit of difficulty. Ironically, though, he doesn't expect the same in return — he's always gotta be good. Be seen as gentle and benevolent. Will likely turn away from someone if they see the unsightly bits of him.





WEAKNESSES:
• Traumatized/PTSD. Damaged sense of self-worth. Guilt-ridden. Ash is a man with blood on his hands and sometimes when he's forced to face that... think about it, remember it, whatever... well, it can really be a lot. His past follows him. He has nightmares and trouble sleeping. Sees the faces of the many people he's killed in the faces of friends, strangers, people he passes on the street, etc. As much as he is trying to distance himself from who he was, sometimes it's impossible. In dark, trembling moments he can push people away, shut himself out, and convince himself that he's unworthy of the life he wants for himself. Unworthy of someone's kindness, warmth, or affection.

• Anger/temper. While Ashley is definitely (by far) the most level-headed of his family, he is still a Wayland; a proclivity for boiling blood is just in their genes. While his patience and tolerance can usually outlast anyone's attempt to goad or challenge him, he isn't infallible. And, perhaps because it takes so much to finally get him to snap, when he does, it is never pretty. His anger is a scary thing once provoked; raised voices, caustic remarks, and biting steel. In the past, as Dino, one just knew better than to push him that far. Nowadays though, there is no one else that his temper scares more than him — he's bound to fall apart afterward, all broken apologies and trembling fear for the heat that lashes in his veins.

• Martyr tendencies. Ashley is always looking for someone to help. Someone to save. Perhaps it's his own way of repentance; to make his sorry life worth something in the end. To make up for all the bad he's done in the past. He can be generous and giving, almost in a way that he purposely makes detrimental to himself. He will go out of his way to offer aid, to self-sacrifice whatever he can in the hope it will tip the scales a bit further in the direction of "good". Be a burden, demand too much from him, take advantage of him — the man will practically beg it of you.

PETS: Ashley fosters and rescues dogs so there are usually about a dozen at his home at a time. Of these though, there are five dogs that he considers to be his pets and whom aren't up for adoption.

HISTORY:
Dino and Dane were almost two years apart in a family with heavy roots in an infamous hunting syndicate, of which their father was the cold, steely spearhead. Even as kiddos, there existed little censorship for the two boys, as they were expected to grow right into their father's footsteps and it was better for them to learn the brutal way of things rather than have to unlearn the sugar-coated naivety of a coddled youth. Their mother often advocated for them to have a more normal childhood and fought with their father often on the matter, but Antonio was very adamant about taking the boys out on missions and assignments very early on.

When they were still quite young, the family's syndicate merged underneath a larger, more successful crime organization called the Guild, and their father began working under the Guild Master. Thereafter, Dino and Dane often found themselves grouped together with the powerful man's daughters, and despite being older than them, their father made it explicitly clear to his sons where their family was positioned in the hierarchy of things.

The boys grew side by side and followed in their father's shadow until they were both widely accepted as capable and dependable members, worthy of their father's reputation and surname. Dino was generally more liked than his younger brother, despite his name being pinned with various accounts of hesitance and wavering; moments of uncertainty and questioning, that had (on more than one occasion) required overcompensation from Dane himself. Dane was the more charismatic of the two, the more manipulative, and the more readily adjusted to their family's lifestyle. Though he was looser than Dino in terms of loyalty, dependability, and maintaining a professional, respectable image, Dane fulfilled what was asked of him with hardly a blink.

Dino, on the other hand, was nursing an increasing struggle with the nature of the Guild. Of the two boys, he possessed qualities that ill-equipped him for the family business — the most blaring of them, a decided moral compass. He did what he was told, but his feet were not so rooted in the bloodied foundation of the Guild. With every terrible thing done by his own hand, or done on his orders, there was a stake of uncertainty driven the tiniest bit further in his chest. He was expected to eventually "grow out of it" and steel his lacking resolve and — to aid and accelerate that transition — he and Dane were tasked with acts of ever-increasing brutality... which Dino completed as he was expected to, always hoping the next beastly endeavor would be the one to still his shaking fingers. He prayed often for desensitization.

But Dino's humanity did not desert him, which was more a curse than a blessing in his family and profession.

In the five years that followed, Ashley — as Dino renamed himself — reveled in his new existence (or his non-existence, if you will). In his own blessed insignificance. And for a long while, he laid low and tested the waters of a small and laughably-benign identity slowly. He worked under-the-table jobs and kept no social circles. He spent a lot of his free time roaming from place to place, never staying long enough to make friends or be remembered, and soaking up the sheer array of undemanding whims now at his disposal. Eventually, he ventured to forge the beginning of small — and very cautious — social circles. And after flitting between a number of jobs, he

Not everything was immediately wonderful, of course — there's still the not-so-improbable possibility of being recognized and found out (and for that reason, Patrick is slightly reluctant to create any too-close relationships in which he could eventually endanger someone). And there are nightmares and a heavy conscious to remind him of all that he's done, as well.
